In a press release, Sony Pictures Animation announced that it’s developing a new animated film based on the famous Hasbro TONKA Trucks. This truly is just a tease because other information no other information various crew members was provided. The film will be produced by Happy Madison Productions and Hasbro.
The TONKA film will be produced by Brian Goldner, president and CEO of Hasbro, and Bennett Schneir, senior vice president and managing director of motion pictures at Hasbro. Fred Wolf, writer of Grown Ups and SNL, is set to write the screenplay for the film.
This news comes a few days after the announcement that Sony Pictures was in development of motion picture adaptations of the classic board games CANDY LAND and RISK. We’re hoping that the TONKA film won’t be a ripoff of Pixar’s Cars, but appears Sony Pictures is the leveraging Hasbro’s 4-wheeled cash cow while it can.
What do you think about a TONKA animated film? Cars ripoff? Or will Sony take it in a different direction?
