In an announcement via ComingSoon.net, Walt Disney Animation just unveiled its next CGI-animated musical Frozen, starring Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel.
Kristen Bell will voice a young dreamer named Anna, who embarks on the journey of the lifetime. Bell is most known for her comedic prowess in comedies such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Couples Retreat.
Idina Menzel will voice Elsa the Snow Queen. Menzel is most famously known for pioneering the role of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, in the Broadway musical Wicked. She also has previously voiced a Disney character: Nancy Tremaine in Enchanted.
The film is loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Snow Queen. A synopsis is also given:
In “Frozen,” a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.
The film will be directed by Chris Buck, who directed Surf’s Up and Tarzan, and produced by Peter Del Vecho, who produced Disney’s most recent traditionally animated films Winnie the Pooh and The Princess and the Frog.
The film will also follow suit with other classic Disney animated tales and will be a musical! The movie will showcase original songs by the Broadway songwriters Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Finding Nemo – The Musical). Menzel actually recorded a song for Enchanted, but it was ultimately cut from the film. So, it will be exciting to see her show off her pipes as a Disney villainess!
Frozen will be released in November 27, 2013.
