Deadline reports that Disney is considering a live-action remake of the 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid, itself a retelling of a timeless Hans Christian Andersen fairytale.
No other firm details are known, including whether or not the film will be greenlit. Even if the film is still in early stages of development, at this point it seems logical from every angle. Disney’s slate of live-action remakes isn’t stopping any time soon, and The Little Mermaid is one of Disney’s most adored and frequently used properties from a synergy perspective. After The Jungle Book‘s impressive theatrical run last month and Beauty and the Beast‘s explosive trailer reaction earlier this week, it makes sense that Disney is looking forward and adding even more titles to its already long list of live-action retellings.
It’s important to note that this project is completely separate from Universal’s own live-action Little Mermaid, which is currently a little farther along in the production process and has cast Chloe Grace Moretz in the lead role.
Do you hope Disney goes forward with a live-action Little Mermaid?
