The Animation Block Party last weekend was definitely a ton of fun as it not only exposed me to student animated and international shorts, but it also screened a series of animated shorts from one of the largest independent animation production companies around, Titmouse Inc.
Titmouse had produced title sequences and cartoons since 2000 for various shows including Metalocolyose, Adult Swim, Black Dybamite, and Netflix’s Turbo F.A.S.T. But one of the things that sets this animation company apart from the rest is that once a year they give their animators a day off to do exactly what they love to do; their animators spend one whole day of the studio’s time and create their own original 5 second animated shorts. So if you’ve ever wondered what animators do on their time off, Titmouse 5 Second Day provides an answer.
Below are some of the appropriately dubbed “Titmouse 5 Second Day” shorts, some of which may or may not be appropriate for all viewers and may or may not be 5 seconds in length. At the screening, I had the awesome opportunity to watch a whole HOUR of these which was…interesting, in the best sense of the word.
Fitmouse was perhaps one of my favorites at the Titmouse 5 Second Day screening because of it’s hilarious simplicity and play on words. Check out Josh Howell‘s work on Youtube and follow him on Twitter.
The reason this one was one of my favorites is probably because it comes from the stereotype regarding women and sweets, usually chocolate, this time Dunuts, and then it just makes it ridiculous. Created by Amanda Turnage for Titmouse 5 Second Day 2014, you can follow her on Youtube and Twitter.
There has been a notable obsession with owls in the mainstream as of late, and hopefully, this makes people think twice. Fat Bird was created by Allie Mehner and you can follow her on Twitter or better yet, Tumblr to see all of her Titmouse 5 Second Day shorts along with some pretty amazing Dragon School girl doodles.
Obviously these were not enough to get your fill on Titmouse animator’s 5 Second Day shorts, so if you want to get your feel, just head over to Youtube and search ‘Titmouse 5 Second Day’ and you’ll be on your way to watching hours of endless original short shorts.
