First, they call it the biggest animated event since The Lion King and now they’ve released its screenplay for award consideration. Clearly, Disney is feeling extremely confident about Frozen (unlike one of our writers). You may have heard about this movie if you visit the site. We’re kind of excited too.
Using their official For Your Consideration website, Disney released the entire, final draft of the Frozen script because, you know, who cares about spoilers? So if you want, you can go there right now and read all 113 pages. While reading scripts is fun, you have to consider some of the magic will be lost by reading songs instead of listening to Idina Menzel singing them. But it’s up to you. You can find the script here.
Although it’s unusual for a studio to release a movie’s screenplay before the movie comes out, this can only mean Disney has real hopes the script could land a nomination, even though it’s not often you see an animated movie’s script in the nominees. That is, except if it’s produced by Pixar (Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up & Toy Story 3 were all nominated, but none of them won). Here’s hoping we see Jennifer Lee take the Oscar comes next February!
You can also find a list of the 19 movies that were submitted for the Best Animated Feature right here. 5 of them will be shortlisted as nominees.
[UPDATE 11/11/13 10:11 AM PST] It appears Disney has taken down the pdf to the screenplay. It’s strange that they put it out there so publicly in the first place, just to take it down a few days later. If you do some digging, you should be able to still find it. Hopefully, it will get put back up after Frozen is released in theatres on November 27.
