The film, directed by Hayao Miyazaki’s son Goro Miyazaki, was released in Japan in summer 2011. Hayao Miyazaki penned the script, which is based on a popular 1980s manga where a boy and girl discover they may be half siblings.
The trailer ha a very peaceful, ethereal feeling to it—much like The Secret World of Arrietty. Much like other Studio Ghibli films, it seems the plot will move at it’s own slower pace, which is actually a breath of fresh air. The animation looks simple and gorgeous.
Interestingly enough, the film will not be distributed in the US by Disney, which has distributed all over Studio Ghibli’s past films, but rather will be distributed by the creators of A Cat in Paris, GKIDS. From Up on Poppy Hill hits US theatres March 2013.Watch the subtitled trailer below! Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
