Deadline reports that Jason Schwartman and Chloe Grace Moretz have been offered the lead rolls in DreamWorks Animation’ next animated film Trolls, based on the popular big-haired dolls from the 90s.
This is the first we’ve heard about this film, but Trolls (or Good Luck Trolls as some sites are reporting) follows the recent trend of turning toys and board games into films (Tonka Trucks, Battleship, Candy Land, Stretch Armstrong, anyone?). It is interesting considering the lovable Good Luck Troll Dolls were already somewhat prominently featured in animated films by a competing studio, Pixar’s Toy Story series. It seems the trend from making cheap direct-to-DVD films about popular toys has evolved into having major studios make the films for the big screen.
Jason Schwartman (Scott Pilgrim is set to play the male lead, Masklin, and Chloe Grace Moretz, best known for Hugo, is playing the female lead. Tim Hill (director of Alvin & the Chipmunks and HOP) is directing, and the brother-sister team of Adam Wilson and Melanie Wilson LaBracio are writing the screenplay. No release date or other details were given.
How do you feel about a Troll film? Was seeing the dolls in Toy Story enough for you or do you want to see more of the fluffy-haired, jewel-bellied trolls?
