This is actually a boat-load of news!
First: Anthony Leondis (director and co-writer of Igor), has been chosen by DreamWorks Animation to helm a new film called Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, written by Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots), which is slated to open in theaters June 5, 2015. THR got the low down on the story:
B.O.O. (Bureau of Otherworldly Operations) is the super classified agency you’ve never heard of and certainly never seen. Dedicated to protecting humans from evil hauntings, the agents of B.O.O. have a secret weapon: they are ghosts themselves! When newbie agents Jackson Moss and his odd-ball partner Watts uncover a plot to destroy B.O.O. by the agency’s Most Wanted Haunter, they must use every trick in their arsenal to defeat his powerful ghost army and save Earth from a ghostly fate.
Second: DWA has announced that Seth Rogen will be voicing Jackson Moss, while Melissa McCarthy will be voicing his partner Watts.
Whilst this is exciting news, it’s also a little shaky. People are already speculating the story as a really bad cross over of Casper and Monsters Inc. Personally, I think there is already something coming this summer that sounds too similar: R.I.P.D starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges.
One thing is for sure, it will find it’s audience regardless as there are plenty of Seth Rogen fans as well as Melissa McCarthy fans who will be clamoring all over this one.
