Disney is really pushing their upcoming Cars spinoff, Planes. Yesterday, they released a fresh set of character posters for the film, as well as announcing much of the high-flying voice cast for the film.
In addition to Dane Cook (Dusty) and Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra (Ishani), the voice cast of Planes will also feature a host of A-list stars. Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards, (Iceman and Goose in Top Gun), are set to voice a duo of F-18 jets, Bravo and Echo. Stacy Keach (Two and a Half Men) will voice Skipper, “a reclusive old Navy Corsair”, described as “the old grouchy guy”. Cedric the Entertainer (Madagascar) is set to voice Mater-type, Leadbottom. Yep, we already think this is Cars all over again.
Planes also features Teri Hatcher (The “Other Mother” in Coraline) as Dottie, and Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond, Tangled) as Chug. Roger Craig Smith (voice of Sonic the Hedgehog; Captain America in Ultimate Spider-Man) voices Ripslinger (the villain?), Gabriel Iglesias voices his stooges, Ned and Zed. Carlos Alazraqui voices El Chupacabra; Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Arrested Development) voices “no-nonsense” Rochelle, a romantic interest for El Chupacabra. Sinbad voices Roper and ESPN’s Colin Cowherd voices Colin Cowling, a blimp. John Cleese will voice the Brit-racer, Bulldog.
In addition to the entire cast, Disney treated us to a ton of character posters from the upcoming film. Looks like they really want you to go see this! Personally, as someone who wasn’t that keen on a Cars spinoff, I have to admit, these posters and character designs have whet my appetite for the film. Most of the characters look well crafted and impressive. Now if only the story is as appealing…
From “above the world of Cars“, Disney’s Planes flies into US theaters August 9.
Stay tuned to The Rotoscopers because we have a special, exclusive Planes feature coming up very soon! (It’s a secret for now!)
